Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the maximum bandwidth that the Serverpack 5G Edge can support?
    • The system can support 5G connection at 100Mhz max bandwidth anywhere between 3,55Ghz to 4,2Ghz which includes band N48 and band N77. At 100Mhz the upload capacity of a single Small Cell is 240Mbits. The bandwidth decreases to about 65-90 Mbits for a 40Mhz channel, and goes down to ca. 30MBits at 20Mhz.
  • Are there ways to boost my bandwidth for special events?
    • In the United States, N48 typically allows up to 40Mhz bandwidth capacity (65-90 Mbits), depending on location of the event. For more than 40Mhz bandwidth at an ad-hoc event, customers can request local licensing.
  • How many SIMs can connect to each cell?
    • Each Small Cell can accommodate up to 30 static SIMs, or up to 20 if the SIMs move between cells.
  • Are there limits to the upload capacity of each SIM?
    • No, there are no upload capacity limits per sim, except those related to the limit of the cell that SIM is connected to, and the distance to that cell (i.e. the signal-to-noise ratio). If desired, the capacity of a particular SIM can be limited manually.
  • What is the maximum usable range of a 5G cell?
    • The maximum reliable usable range is around 300 m, but on average the coverage of one Small Cell in open space is 150-200 m for high capacity uploads. The range of the antenna is highly dependent on the type of walls (outdoors, wood, drywall, concrete, etc.) and altitude of the antenna (the higher the better, with 6m from the ground as an average for outdoor events). The range can be doubled by using a bidirectional antenna.
  • What is the expected latency of the 5G Network?
    • The expected latency of the 5G network itself is less than 15 milliseconds, but the glass to glass latency correlate directly to the speed of video encoding and decoding. With the Haivision PRO 460, glass-to-glass latency can be as low as 80 milliseconds, while the use of smartphones may result in a latency of up to 1 second.
  • Are all smart phone compatible with the 5G Serverpack cells? 
    • No, not all smartphone are capable to operate in 5G standalone (SA) mode. The most compatible are Samsung S23 and newer models. The iPhone 15 models also work well. For other smartphones, it is possible to set up portable 5G WiFi hotspots.
